Car Conversation

After stopping for KFC carryout, where Malaika asked for corn on the cob for a side:

“When I eat corn on the cob, it reminds me of squirrel kabobs,” Malaika said.

I giggled, but not out loud. “Where did you come to learn of squirrel kabobs?” I asked.

“We do it at breakfast [at school] with the Fruit Loops.  Put them on sticks,” she said.

I waited.  Nothing more.  “Where did the squirrel come from?” I asked.

“I don’t know,” she answered.

There ensued an animated conversation about putting squirrels on sticks.

(We have never eaten, nor discussed eating, squirrel prior to this conversation.)
