Spring break is coming to an end, though we have a visit with a little friend planned for tomorrow. I think we have all enjoyed the downtime from the usual schedule and will be heading back into the school routine on Monday more rested. That is a good thing all around.
We did make it out to the zoo on Thursday. It was not as warm as predicted, but that didn’t stop us. In fact, it made the visit more enjoyable because there was not a big crowd. We started out visiting the polar bears and were the only ones there for at least 5 minutes. With a chill in the air, the bears were active and we enjoyed watching them dive and play in the water.
The great thing about the way the zoo is laid out, especially on colder days, is the amount and spacing of indoor areas. We made our way around, going from outdoors to in then back out. Later in the day, the sun did peek out for a bit. Still, we were glad for the breaks from the wind.
I really thought the girls would get cold and be ready to head home, but they were dogged in their pushing on. We ended up walking the whole zoo. I wonder if anyone has ever figured it out how many miles that might be. It was a good work out. Took lots of animals pics but only a few of the kiddos as they were mostly on the move.
They still love riding the carousel.
We don’t usually visit the reptiles, but since it is an indoor area, we headed in.
Turns out Adia was fascinated watching the king cobra come out into her habitat and move around in it. She watched the big snake until she settled down for a nap.
Malaika was pretty tired by the time we finally headed home.
The remainder of the week was laid back. The girls got their hair done on Friday and today we went to a fun birthday party. I think we’ll all be fortified and ready to tackle the last quarter of the school year.
I’ve been thinking quite a lot about how I have grown as a parent, as a single parent. I’m a lot more confident today than I a few years ago. There will be more thoughts about that to come.
