And It Begins

I worked today at the Psychic Fair at church. When I finally got home, this is what I found.

Yep, that’s the entire contents of the 7th grader’s backpack on the kitchen table while her backpack itself is on her chair. And the shoes. They are cute. She must have taken them off right there, just like that when she got home from church. And the other side of the table? The 3rd grader’s backpack, packed at least, but sitting atop the kitchen table.

We have a homework table, they have desks. There is a hanging shoe rack in the laundry room. I thought that our smaller kitchen table might encourage school and homework items and personal effects to inhabit their own designated spaces. It seems I’ve hoped in vain. Welcome to the school year!

But you have to admit – the shoes are great. Compositionally and otherwise…..

      That they are!

Now, if we can just get the notebooks and folders into the backpack. LOL They changed the organizational system on them this year, now having a separate notebook and smaller binder for each major subject rather than everything in one large binder in sections. I think it is going to take some time for her to adjust. She is so afraid she is going to forget something that she feels it all must be right there in sight, I think. Head on middle school this year. I’m sure she’ll adapt, eventually.
